Professional Fuse Board Upgrades or Replacement Services
In any electrical system, the fuse board plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of users by protecting against earth leakage and direct electric shocks. As technology advances, it becomes necessary to upgrade your fuse board to enhance the reliability and security of your electrical connections and installations. At RY Group, we specialise in providing safe and professional fuse board replacement services for homes and offices, ensuring that your electrical system meets the highest safety standards.
The electrical circuit box in your premises has fuses and circuit breakers that allow electricity to flow smoothly through each connection, preventing any interference or disruptions. However, when an appliance draws excessive electricity, or if old wires cause damage, the fuses may disconnect to safeguard the entire electrical panel. In such cases, opting for a fuse board upgrade can be a more suitable option than a complete replacement, as it allows other panel components to continue functioning smoothly after the enhancement.
Regularly checking and upgrading your fuse board is a wise practice. Sometimes, users may only focus on the initial installation without considering the need for ongoing maintenance or servicing. Similar to other installations in your home or office, fuse boards have a limited capacity and may show signs of deterioration over time. If you are interested in learning more about fuse board upgrades, our team of certified electricians are ready to assist you and perform the necessary upgrades.

Frequently Asked Questions
Our recommendation is to have an Electrical EICR test carried out when going from Non RCD Protected to RCD Protected
This is because the older Non RCD boards are much less sensitive - therefore as they do not have the cut off device any faults pre existing on your cables or accessories may be undiscovered. As soon as you then fit the RCD protected board they may become apparent leaving you in a situation of potentially
- Unexpected costs
- Emergency situation especially if you have any medical equipment, specialist equipment or generally day to day things such as internet or boiler circuits could be effected
Of course if you want to, you may take the risk - however it is something you should be aware of when going in to have the works done.
If you are simply relocating a board or maybe upgrading its size and its already RCD protected - then the chances are lesser running into a problem and so you may want see it as a lesser risk.
Prices for EICR's can be found here
Small Jobs i.e one or two new light installations or replacements
Normally through description over the phone or email and or some images if needed we can give you our hourly rate with estimated time frames which you can find here on our prices page
Small - Medium Projects i.e new installations with cable routes and design requests
We may recommend a video estimate to start with to assess your requirements and potentially provide you a ballpark figure to provide you quicker turnaround time and save you the hassle of appointment slots.
The Electrician will ask if your supplying materials and or any specification requests - and from asking to see fuse board locations and installation locations - plus the ceiling and flooring type for route estimate how much time they think it will take. On longer duration jobs we do not price per hour of course - and based on the estimated time work out days and man power + materials to provide competitive rates.
Medium - Large Projects i.e new installations with cable routes and design requests on a larger scale or more in depth designs
We would attend for a free site visit to go through this in depth and look round the site/drawings or designs if you have them. As well as any products you are looking at.
On longer duration jobs we do not price per hour of course - and based on the estimated time work out days and man power + materials to provide competitive rates.
After a fuse-board upgrade is completed - the electrician will issue an installation certificate for just this work.
The work will also be registered by the Ry Group through the NICEIC platform notifying building control - who will subsequently send you a notification.
This is different to an electrical installation certificate or EICR test which is done on a whole property - so by having a fuse-board changed you will not get a complete certificate - unless you had one carried as an additional request. If you are renting a property you will need to have a Satisfactory Installation Condition Report (EICR) of the whole property - and or the house must of been re-wired in the last 10 Years in which you will hold an Installation Certificate for a full re-wire. More information on EICR's can be found here and more information on our Landlord services can be found here
