So, how do Valve and Pump Installations work? There are a couple of scenarios we commonly encounter. In some cases, when you report an issue, we diagnose the problem with your pump or valve and provide a replacement recommendation through a detailed quotation. If we don't have the necessary equipment available on the spot, we will price the replacement based on our standard diagnostic hourly rate. You can find our pricing details on our website.
On the other hand, there are instances where clients already know what the problem is and simply need a direct replacement. In such cases, we can provide you with a cost estimate through our online platform, email, or phone. To ensure accuracy, we encourage you to share relevant images or detailed information about the product you require.
In situations where a customer requires a pump to be installed from scratch, such as a shower pump, to enhance water pressure, we may recommend a survey visit. This allows our experts to assess your specific requirements and propose the most suitable solution.

Frequently Asked Questions
Survey Visits are required when the engineer can't just take a visual free quote and he has to carry out testing and lengthy research on products. To ensure that we provide you with the correct specification, for your desired outcome.
Because of the time involved and skill we charge for this visit. However, we then deduct this cost from your quotation. So you don't lose out.
As a company this ensures we maintain quality in our advice and minimise issues with results. Whilst still be fair to our clients. Many works will be able to have Free Quotations but in some instances such as creating a specification for a new pump, we have to carry out a Survey Visit.
The answer to this question is very specific to a couple of factors
- What system do you currently have operating your water pressure - i.e a combination boiler, an unvented cylinder, or a conventional or system boiler with a separate cylinder.
Depending on the above answer a pump may or may not be suitable, and or the type of pump required will differ. So lets look into the options ...
- I have a combination boiler ...
Before fitting a combination boiler, you incoming water pressure should be checked anyway. However if you are experiencing bad pressure - you need to ask yourself has this always been bad? or has it just become bad?
If its always been bad - then maybe your incoming mains pipe either has a restriction or needs upgrading you can check our our upgrading water mains page here. You may also if you mains upgrade is not feasible and the pressure is not severely bad be able to fit a mains booster pump on to your system with a combination boiler, you can see our mains water booster pump page here. However we would advise a survey visit by an engineer first to ensure this is a feasible solution.
If you have just started getting poor water pressure - you need to ask yourself - is it in all the water outlets? i.e all taps and showers or is it in one particular area or component. If its in all of the outlets you may have a restriction in some of your pipework, an airlock if you have had recent work done, or your water supplier may have a leak on the mains pipe coming into your property or restriction - so this should all be considered. Therefore if a new issue - fitting a mains booster pump before investigation, is likely not going to be the long term solution. If your issue is in one area or component - you may have a faulty, tap (see page here) or shower (see page here). You may also have a pipe restriction or leak to this area effecting the flow rate, or causing an airlock.
You cannot fit a shower pump with a combination system - as its main fed and normally shower pumps connect on to a cylinder system that is not mains fed or unvented.
2. I have an unvented water cylinder...
If you have an unvented water cylinder .... its a pressurised system - therefore a larger version of a pump meaning you should have high water pressure. If you are experiencing low water pressure with this system again you need to ask has it always been poor?- or has it slowly or just started loosing pressure?
If the answer is its always been poor, you may have the incorrect specification of cylinder for your output or use.
If its just started loosing pressure you may require, a cylinder service to re-pressurise the expansion vessel - see the page here. Or maybe one of the components such as the combination valve has failed - causing issues with the PRV and reducing pressure. You can also experience air locks or pipe blockages from the cylinder - and or in rare cases the cylinder coil internally may be split.
In this case rarely will any pump solve an issue of water pressure.
3. A conventional or system boiler with separate standard cylinder....
This is the most common use for being able to use a shower pump. However you still need to ask yourself - has this water pressure always been poor? or has it just started getting worse or altogether bad?
If its always been poor - you have a few options to consider. You may wish to look into fitting a shower pump - if you only concerned about the shower a few outlets, or if you have a larger property and plan to extend or need more outlets boosted you may consider upgrading your cylinder to an unvented cylinder reducing future maintenance costs. You could also consider connecting the water to your mains and making it a sealed system. By booking a survey visit an engineer will be able to explain your options and or look into the appropriate types or pumps or cylinders for your current set up. You can simply book online.
If you water pressure has been good before but declined or suddenly become poor - then you need to question why this may be. A common fault on unsealed systems, are air locks these can be caused from faulty taps or leaks and or recent work being carried out. You may also have dirt or debris in some of the pipework and in this case its best to book a diagnostic visit you can see our rates here
Combination Systems
First of all - if you have a combination boiler you will not have any zone valves on the system - so you can rule this out.
However you will have a central heating pump inside your boiler and common systems of a faulty pump are the boiler locking out and poor flow to your radiators not getting fully hot. Sometimes pumps are on their way out and not fully gone - however if its fully failed or seized you will have no heating to your radiators.
Most boilers now have fault codes - and common fault code descriptions for pumps will relate to over heating and or lock outs. See you manufacturers website for a list of fault codes.
Conventional or System Boilers
If you central heating pump has failed on this type of system - its external to the boiler. Again you will experience low flow or no flow of heat to your radiators. It does not effect your water pressure.
You will also have zone valves on your system - these act like a gateway system for your hot water and central heating supply. If the zone valve head or body has failed on these you will experience 1 of the following
- Hot water coming on whenever your heating is on, or vicer versa
- No hot water just heating
- Hot water but no heating
If you have a Combination Boiler you will have a pump that is inside your boiler.
However if you have a Conventional System you will have an independent central heating pump and zone valves.
In a domestic dwelling a standard external central heating pump will normally look something like this
And a zone valve will normally look like this - you have two types of zone valve a 2 Way zone valve and a 3 way zone valve
In commercial properties or very large dwellings - all of this will normally be in your plant room.
