Frequently Asked Questions
The most common reason you will know you will need a pipe upgrade is
- You are buying a property or have had a survey and they find the mains water pipe is lead. Its not advisable to have a lead pipe feeding you water supply pipes especially drinking water and so this should be changed or a professional water filter should be installed by a local plumber.
- You have always had poor pressure at your property, and its mains fed. You may have had a plumber carry out a flow rate test or pressure test who confirms its low at the point of entry and not just a blockage or faulty water outlet.
No ... your water supply company will only correct pressure issues if you can prove the issue is with the mains water supply pipe that is not on your boundary ... and therefore their property.
For example if this pipe had a restriction or had a leak, or was old it may be not providing enough incoming pressure to your boundaries pipework. A plumber would be able to prove this by checking the flow rate in the pipe and the pipe size. Your water supplier may also come out for free to confirm if there is an issue, if they have good reason to believe there could be.
If their pipe is fine with ample pressure - its then down to you to find out why your pressure is not sufficient maybe your pipe is corroded or there is a blockage or maybe your pipe size on your boundary is too small.
